  • milk... everywhere

I totally just tripped over my computer cord, which hit my glass of milk, sent it flying across the room, sending milk EVERYWHERE! Ok, so that's fine... but... even though milk was all over my computer, the table, the rug, the chair, the wall, my homework papers, and ME!... somehow the glass landed perfectly facing up, with milk still in it! ahhhh... hehe

ok, gotta go back to the studying. just had to share.

oh, and I am very disappointed with the result of prop 8... maybe one day we will actually have equal rights in this country (hopefully sooner than later)

  • congrats to mister forty-four

I'm really not sure why I am still awake right now. Didn't do as much homework as I should have because my computer is a spaz. I will go ahead and blame it on my computer even though I needed to do reading. Out of a book. Anyway...

To Obama - you are great. thank you for winning. now, please help our country in some positive way. please. thank you.

Now I just want to know the results of CA Prop.8 -- come on now... it's like smoking. Just say NO.

    Good night to you.

Favorite part of my day... Heather telling some guy that she goes to school with that she doesn't remember who he is, and then looking at his picture and telling him that his picture does not look like his face... and that he "needs a new picture... not a new face". LOL oh my gosh... then she told him that I agreed with her so he ended up changing his picture... we didn't like that one either so he changed it again. Oh my goodness... so funny.

oh and I also tried to make rice krispie treats but used the microwave which i usually don't do and messed them up... then i tried to re-do them but didn't have enough marshmallows so they don't really stick together all that well. sad... but I added some orange candy sugar stuff that came out of the test-tube candy that Em sent me... so at least they are festive.

OH, AND... this morning, I got about half of the way to school and realized I had forgotten the one paper that I needed to turn in today so I went back home, knowing I would be late to class.... ran inside to get it frantically and cut my ankle on the door... so I sped back to school, walked in late and got blood on my shoe :(

LOL... what a day. seriously. I am supposed to go carve pumpkins tonight but I went to the store today and they were OUT of pumpkins! maybe these are signs that I should just give up for the day... but I will not! never give up! muahahaaaaa!

    :) xoxo,

  • winter is coming early

It's supposed to snow tonight through tomorrow. Not a lot, but still... I hope it snows.

  • calculations is sucking my life away

It is amazing what a little break from work can do for your brain. A little while ago I was working on this one problem for over 30 minutes, had written it out like a million times (minus a few, sure)... but it was frustrating me like crazy! So, I left... read some communications, took a shower (yes, sometimes I actually do that), made some tea, and went back to it. First try... got it! woot.

Anywhoo.. finished 225 problems from the book earlier today, and still have a bunch more to go. These are the good times of pharmacy school! :) Actually, it's all going well... but yea, pharmacy is my life. That's all there is to it. Gotta love it!

  • interesting fact of the day

For whom this is interesting, I'm not sure... but it's the little things that get me through the day...

Sphingolipids (a particular class of lipids/fats that are components of cell membranes) are used in cell signaling (such as pathways leading to calcium release in cells to help stimulate muscle contraction) and cell recognition (they are the antigenic determinants of the ABO blood groups). Interesting part: they were named for the Sphinx of Thebes (who killed those that could not figure out her riddle) because when they were first discovered, no one could figure out what they were for!

It just makes me wonder how long it actually took them to figure out the function... and why then more things are not named with sphin- before the root.

  • communications name

So we had to make new names for ourselves in communications yesterday based on certain letters in our first and last names and putting together the corresponding silly words from a list...

    My communications name: Boobie Bubbletushie

    great... .just great...

  • first week at UACP

So the first week is just about coming to a close! Check it out: UACP Class of 2011! (if you look in the picture, I'm in the second row, third from the right... you can sort of see my head...)

Anyway, not too much to report yet. We started our Intro to Pharmacy and Health Care Systems class Monday and after that first day the professor had a family emergency and left (our hearts are with you, Dr. Gettman). Then on Tuesday we had a lecture called "How to get through pharmacy school without an aneurism". Good stuff... ha... he talked about the leading causes of death, importance of exercise, staying away from distractions, etc, etc, etc....

Wednesday we started our Cellular Biology and Medicinal Chemistry class and will be in that for a while, along with Communications which will start next Wednesday.

Last night was my first night to go out to LBH (aka Little Big Horn, the only place to "go out" around here)... reminds me a little bit of Stampede with an area to dance and pool tables... but then there are also walls lined with animal heads. They have karaoke on Thursday nights so that's when the pharmacy and law students show up.

Anyway, we got out for lunch early today, so I'm catching up on my internet time since I still don't have it at home. They were supposed to call me yesterday but of course did not! ahhh... those people... lol but it's alright. We are surviving.

Ok... I'm going to mingle with these crazy kids...

  • Christian the lion

OK, so you may have seen this already, but if not.... WATCH IT NOW!!!

It's a nice little story of the lion that was bought at a department store to be raised in a city flat and church courtyard. They successfully released him into the wild and returned to Africa a year later to see him. The video shows their reunion. awwww.

  • summer update

Just a little update on the knee... had surgery last Thursday (a fairly minor lateral menisectomy), stopped using crutches on Tuesday, and as of today I am walking without a limp. I had my second and last post-op appointment today in which he took out my stitches and said that I could start on the stationary bike now and start a gradually-increasing running program in about 5 weeks. My cartilage is cracked in that area of my knee, which he thinks is leftover from my ACL injury back in the day, and he sees signs of the beginning of arthritis. So pretty much I might be having problems with this knee for the rest of my life, but as long as I keep up on my excercise and what not, it should not be too bad (I hope). So that's the news. Good stuff.

Let's see... we recently considered getting me into a newer car but instead decided to fix up my baby and hope that she keeps me going for a while! Today I got a bike rack for her so that I can bring my bike over to Virginia (and I got a pretty new helmet... Logan would be proud, I am being safe!). She will probably be in the shop until next Tuesday or Wednesady when I will finally get her back and pack everything in to head out on Thursday!

It is all coming so fast that it really hasn't hit me yet that I am leaving. I'm thinking once I get there, start school, and am about three weeks in, it might finally hit me! I'll be sitting there and all of a sudden realize, 'oh my goodness... I don't think I'm in California anymore...'. Yep, that's about how it will go. Anyway, I am nowhere near being ready to go when it comes to packing because I am being my normal self and putting everything off until the last possible moment! Oh well, I know it will all get done because it has to.

We ran into Kevin today at the post office; he was getting all packed today too since he is heading out on Saturday (so soon!). So, yea... It sure sounds like he is being a lot better about packing than me. He's taking the train all the way over to Harvard (bleh... yes, the smarty pants is going to Harvard Law). The train thing is cool and I would sooo love to do something like that.. but trains don't stop in Grundy. There is one that passes through, I looked it up. But nothing stops there :( lol. And besides, I will need my car to get to school due to the lack of public transportation... so whatev.

Alright, well there has probably been more going on but I really can't think of anything and I'm going to go sit on the bike now (woo hoo).

Oh, and we mapquested the road trip we are about to take... talk about good times. It took four pages to print out all of the directions... it is about 2,770 or so miles (which means about 5 and a half trips to San Diego!) and is going to take a full four days of driving to complete (plus of course a little stop over to visit the fam in Texas). So seriously... who would not be looking forward to that!?!

    :)
