  • .34375 of me is a mystery

So, according to the Stechfield-Holmes-Hait family history that some long lost relative of mine (Anne Hait Christian) put together... I figured out today that I know 65.625% of my heritage... leaving that other 34.375% a mystery! My mom's side is easy... she is 100% dutch so there's 1/2 of me... but my dad is all over the place. What I know for sure now is that I am 1/16 Danish, 1/16 Norwegian and 1/32 English on his side... the rest I will have to figure out one of these days (something else to add to the life list)!

My next step is to figure out the 1/4 from my grandma Joan, and work on figuring out my great great grandma Anna (formerly Leach) Holmes, my great great great grandma Henrietta M. (formerly Randall) Holmes... and then go from there!

If you happen to know any of their living relatives... lemme know! k thanks :)

  • for Mark

Tomorrow my mom and I are leaving for San Francisco for the two-day Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It is 40 miles of walking on Saturday and Sunday throughout the city and surrounding area.

Awareness, research and support for anything in the field of oncology is such an important and necessary thing.

For that, I like to think that I am walking in memory of Mark. It has been a long battle and I cannot believe he is gone. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I even saw him. Probably some time randomly at Konocti or at one of those events that all of Lakeport seems to show up to. But Mark, you have always been one of the good ones. One of those people that others are happy to be around, always making someone laugh or smile. I look back at all of those good times in algebra... all of those times cheering you on at basketball games. I, and so many others, have undoubtedly been changed for the better by having you in our lives. You will be missed and loved forever. Forever.

    xoxo

  • home for the summer

As far as I am concerned... this stuff is the best thing since sliced bread.... or maybe since our first trip to the moon... anyway, it's wonderful:

    pr-peteasecat

oh, and here are a couple of recent quotes:
"Want me to massage your uterus?" -Riss
"Well it's whatever you want... you can drink and drive." -Mom

AND... the best thing since Pet-ease tuna soft chews.... the amazon kindle! Ron got it for me for graduation and it is pretty much the most exciting thing ever! seriously.

  • final final

In a couple of hours I will begin my last final at UCSD. Ever.

Time goes by so fast it's hard to realize all of the wonderful things that have happened in the past 5 years. Wow. And now it's almost over. It's a very strange feeling... I'm trying to get a handle on it right now but I don't think I really can yet. I think the first time I every wrote in this blog was during or after a stressful bout with Muir 40 freshman year. Now that seems like a lifetime ago. So many things have changed since then. Hmm... I can't wait to see how I feel tonight... 10 pm. No more class. Center Hall 113 will be the last classroom I enter. Weird.

Ok, gotta go cram a little more information into my brain so I can make it a happy ending...

  • us open... aka khaki madness

Yesterday was officially my very last day with SKCC. It was a great run, but now I must move on and up to bigger and better things...

So anyway, I had to go drop off my last timesheet and have my exit interview; but, my point here is not that... it is that the U.S. OPEN is being held down the street from the Center at the Torrey Pines golf course this year... and it's going on this week! So.... not only is it insanely busy and crazy around that area... but the streets are being taken over by conservative khaki shorts!

    My goodness it was insane...

As I was driving down the street, I started noticing how all of the people looked very similar; it only took me a second to realize it was because they were all wearing their golf watchers-appropriate clothing. I honestly don't think I have seen that many pairs of identical khaki shorts and polo shirts in my life! Oh man it just kills me. So, yea... La Jolla is currently being overcome with country club attire... even more than usual.

    that is all...

  • all time low

When it comes to school... that's where I'm at right now. I just finished a paper that is due later today. And I recently did the same thing with multiple lab reports. That is not me... that is not how I roll...

Ah... anyway, yea... I am soooo glad that I am almost done. My brain needs a rest... it is over it... finished... that's the end...

  • music for motivation

ok so seriously... need motivation? listen to the cool runnings soundtrack. it works every time. It's like... ok... if they can carry that bobsled all the way to the finish line, I can most definitely finish this paragraph in the next 10 minutes. try it...

    :)

  • no more anatomy

I just finished my last exam in anatomy! It is a fantastically amazing feeling (and only a little sad because I liked the people in that class). But I am free!!! ...no more driving downtown at 7:00 in the morning... no more long nights of memorization (at least for that class). ahhh... yes, it feels good.

Then I just have to get through my pharmacology test tomorrow and it will be the start of a beautiful weekend. Kee and Riss are coming down... Trisha is getting married on Saturday... Bethany is graduating on Sunday... then it's a holiday on Monday and I will no longer have anatomy on Tuesday... so yea. I'm pretty much excited.

Oh, and here are a few interesting videos...

-- a puppet show with the Harry Potter gang... a little creepy but that's ok

-- cloning dogs?!? I really don't think this is necessary...

-- the crack spider - for the first few seconds it almost seems real... but then not so much...

  • same-sex marriage legalized

Just in case you haven't heard, earlier today the California Supreme Court overturned Proposition 22... the one that banned same-sex marriages back in 2000. It was a 4-3 decision that will now allow gay marriage in California. This is a wonderful and necessary step forward for the state, and will hopefully be a starting point for the rest of the country! Now, of course there is opposition... as there always is with this sort of thing... there is already a proposed amendment for the November ballot that could cancel out this progress... but hopefully that does not go through.

Seriously people... as Pat would say... love is a battlefield. So why must we make it harder than it already is? Why can't we just let love be recognized when it's there and be happy for the fact that two more people in this world have found that person who makes them whole. seriously.

and ps. another step forward... maybe on a slightly smaller scale but nonetheless important...! :)  Bethany had her last final today and is FINISHED!!! woooo.. no more college. or at least no more undergrad. wooooo. congrats dude.
