  • the language barrier

We took placement tests today. The first one was written…I left most of it blank. Then we had an oral section… it took her about ten seconds to realize, “oh, i think you are a beginner.” thanks.. yea, i know. lol

it is supposed to rain for 10 straight days here, i guess. i bought an umbrella yesterday morning… and it broke yesterday afternoon. i walked around today with a retarded umbrella until i finally gave up and threw it away.

I think courtney and i are going to starve to death over here (either that or get fat because all we eat is pasta, bread, pizza, etc.) but yea… we eat things sometimes even though we dont know what they are… and i really dont think they have turkey here :( it takes us sooo long to get through the grocery store because we dont know what anything is! so far.. we tried to buy lotion.. ended up being soap… tried to buy laundry detergent… ended up being fabric softener… ha

  • siena, new friends, wine

so, we got to italy safe and sound. it is absolutely amazing here. we had a few mishaps in Florence making it from the airport to our Hostel, but once we got there it was so worth the trouble. it had tons of beautiful statues and a beautiful view of tuscany from our window. we went wandering around the city from the hostel, but that area was mostly a residential area, so there wasn’t too much to see. but, there was a ton of little mini smart cars.. courtney had to take a picture with one. haha. so funny. but, yea, then we got up and took a bus to Siena yesterday morning and made it to the Jolly Hotel where we were all meeting.

we have met a ton of cool people, and have gone wandering around the city (inside the city walls!!) getting lost only a few times. it’s crazy with all of the narrow streets full people and cars trying to push their way through. our apartment is on a sort-of main street but it’s still only a small one way street. its awesome though. doen’t look like anything you would see anywhere in the states.

we have gone out a few times to restaurantes in Il Campo… kinda the center of town with a big circular area where everyone just sits on the ground in circles and hangs out!.. its so awesome. they are setting up for some big concert out there that is oging on tomorrow night that we are probably going to. hmm..but other than that.. siena is actually a pretty small place… inside the walls at least. you can walk all the way across the city in probably 20-30 minutes.

our apartment building is full of other students that are all really cool. it’s good though that we get along with all of them because our kitchen is only a few feet wide… kinda like a closet. and our oven doens’t work… and the stove only sort of works. but it is so cute… we decorated it with pictures of all the wonderful people back home whom i love so dearly lol… oh, and also our fridge is only a mini fridge and was full of mold!! gross!! haha.. but we cleaned it.

all of the apartments in our building are completely different and really cool in their own way. ..lets see what else? we had orientation today that took forever! but it was alright. we have our language placement test tomorrow which should be interesting.

ok, we are going to make dinner with our neighbors (Jessica, Emily, and Mark) .. (im working on remembering everyones names.. it’s kinda hard… i forget things easily.. but oh well, i will get them eventually). — they actually have a working kitchen.

oh, and courtney and i bought our first bottle of wine today.. aww

    ok, gotta go!

    ciao!

  • adventures and goodbyes

    parlo italiano un poco.

so, i tried to write one of these stupid things the other day, but z’s computer didn’t like me and deleted the whole thing. lol.. oh well!

san diego was fun. i wan’t there very long, but got to say some goodbyes and have some good times… you know… got to meet bethany’s roomates (both red-haired katies), took a shopping trip to costco, had a slightly scary encounter with the Orkin man when Kendra and I were at Jamba Juice, took a nap on the beach, went to mexico, stole courtney’s car, went to the wild animal park and sea world for free! (yay for courtney having the hook up), stayed with kendra and walked around downtown, ate some awesome desserts at kendra’s work (Extrordinary Desserts), visited school, visited z’s new house, played some pool at (Mark,Pat,Scott,Eric,&Adam)’s awesome house, ate a chipotle burrito, etc etc.

well, i think i’ve put off packing long enough… here i go… seriously this time

“Let’s hope it’s awesome and cheap… that’s so me.”  -Riss

“You’ll get kicked out of the house.”  -Riss   …   “No, you’ll just have melted ice cream.”  -Ash

    “I know about sheeps.”  -Riss

“No. I’m not having a baby… no one can look down there right now.”  -Ash

    “I’m a grandpa.”  -Z    …   “Me too.”  -Kendra

“Well I wanted to get down on all fours!”  -Courtney   …  “She’s a gay lion.”  -Kendra

If you are my friend… and you are not courtney… I’m going to miss you sooo much!!! (i would miss courtney too but im going to be with her 24-7… so i wont get the chance)… i love you all!!! :)

    yay for leaving on monday!

    ciao!

  • boardstock 2005

ok, so I am a terrible fish owner… i forgot about my fish from 12:30 today when i cleaned their tank until just a minute ago when i saved them from the back room and put them back in their tank…!! but, nonetheless they are all still alive, including Liger, who really is taking over the entire tank these days. he is our Q12 goldfish from the beginning of last school year in the apartments… he started out as one of those little cheap “feeder” type, ugly goldfish…it was a contest to see which apartment could keep their fish alive the longest… but yea, he has turned into a 4.5 inch long fatty who would eat all day if he had the choice (it’s surprising he doesn’t eat our other fish!)

…then there is “stupid fish” as we like to call him, or Paris (because he is a weenie… kendra and i were reading the iliad when we got him) who is an upside-down catfish. but, instead of swimming around upside-down as all of the other ones did at thepet store when we got him… stupid fish swims almost sideways and hides in the plants 24-7. but, it is kinda cool… he turns clear when i put him in the other container to clean the tank.. it’s like he can camouflage himself!

we also have 3 little neons that look exactly the same. we have tried to name them, but then you can never tell them apart, so it’s kinda pointless. one of them is still from my original fish that i brought down to SD (he survived two 10 hour rides in the car… awesome little guy!).. but yea, we tried to buy him some little friends because he would always sit by himself in the frog’s mouth (a giant orange ceramic frog that sits in the tank)… but now the other two just swim around while he still just sits/floats/whatever in the frog by himself :(

our other two fish are little orange platys. one of those is an original also! …the platys dont have names either.. but they are cool… so it’s okay

anyway…so in the last two weeks I have seen the following bands: From Satellite (very cool guys btw… we hung out with Wookie, their tour director, and met them after the show), Hoobastank, Breaking Benjamin, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Big City Rock, Relient K, and Simple Plan (my favorite concert… it was awesome!… yay… i love them) .. and saturday we went to Boardstock!

  • rascal flatts… just kidding

so, in case you didn’t hear the sadness… rascal flatts was cancelled … laryngitis ruined the day… but, we did get to stand in a pointless line for an hour and take every possible picture we could of ourselves, so we will at least get to remember the fun day

i am soooo ready to go to italy… not with my italian, i’m still working on that :) … but it will be so nice to be out of the country and away from everything for a while… i’m getting more and more excited by the day!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEE!!!

    love ya!

so, after we got back from the lake (where kee and i got awesome air and almost died! haha… i have ice on my head right now) … but, yea… i went to Park Place with my parents to eat, and we were sitting right next to the real Coach Carter (http://www.coachcarter.com/about.htm). Samuel L. Jackson played him in the movie… and the real guy was sitting right there next to us. i thought it was cool. i wanted to say something to him… but i felt dumb, i haven’t even seen the movie. lol

ooo, also… i got to go see Larry the Cable Guy last night… (thanks bethany!!!! you are wonderful!) that was a good show!

…and sunday is Rascal Flatts… i’m so excited!
